There’s a new pulse of social activity happening on the Sistrunk Corridor. It’s called 5:01 Friday’s – an After Hours Business Social. The Sistrunk corridor also deemed as Midtown is a place of continual transition.

It’s no secret and you can’t help but notice the enhancements along the thoroughfare. Paved sidewalks and medians, benches, onside parking after five and the modern retro looking street lamps that add a whole new look.

It’s becoming a destination with the help of popular events put on by the city such as the recent SummerFest that feature R&B Balladeer Legend Howard Hewitt earlier this month and Light Up Sistrunk during the Holidays. Also there has been a gathering during the week at the Midtown Commerce Center Building and now there is 5:01 Friday’s.

A Social event taking place once a month first started in June. It features valet parking, live entertainment, Gourmet Food trucks and others surprises. We inquired to find out what 5:01 Friday’s is all about and this is what was explained to us.

We are nurturing a collaborative with other stake holders in the community called the midtown area. We’ve deemed it the “Midtown Collaborative” Our purpose’ we are invested in our community, we are invested in supporting Black Professionals, professional groups & organizations, entrepreneurs & business owners. By providing a venue in partnership with the city of Fort Lauderdale to meet, network, exchange re-sources & learn about redevelopment opportunities.

To allow organizations and professional groups to share their information, increase their membership, and raise their profile with the audience and patrons at a 5:01 Fridays Business Social. Provide a safe environment and valet parking, that the Sistrunk corridor is a vibrant, cultural & historical space as a backdrop!

We encourage those with a taste for something different, fun and informative to attend. Their presence makes a statement that they are a part of and believe in the Midtown area as a place for everyone to experience. This month we welcome “South Florida Business Professionals Network” and feature Big Brooklyn Red & Melissa Moonchild Stokes for live entertainment on Friday, Aug. 30, 2013 at 904 N.W. Sistrunk Blvd., 5  to 10 p.m.
