AKAAKAdemic Foundation, Inc. announces the scholarship recipients

     The AKAdemic Foundation, Inc. announces the recipients of its eighth Annual Scholarship Awards who have been selected to receive awards up to $1000, in aid for the 2014-2015 collegiate academic years. The Scholarship Sip was held on May 17, 2014 at the Jim Ward Community Center in Plantation. This year’s Scholarship Sip was co-chaired by Dr. Caranita (Kim) Rhone and Marqueta James

The students, some of which will be attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and private colleges, represent some of Broward County’s prestigious public and private schools. The effort represents the AKAdemic Foundation’s initiative to support and encourage students to continue their growth, personally and academically. The award is provided to the students helping to meet their needs including tuition assistance, room and board, and books. Award amounts vary depending on the students’ presentation and information included in the application process.

“These outstanding students demonstrated their potential through creativity, volunteerism, and hard work,” said Mrs. E. Pearl Maloney, president of the AKAdemic Foundation. “Selecting these recipients involved an intensely competitive process, and is a tribute to their ability and future as becoming contributing citizens in the broader community.

We are proud of our young people. Our legacy of fostering higher education lives through these individuals. The AKAdemic Foundation is committed to continuing its legacy by laying the groundwork for continued academic and personal excellence through programs like awarding our Annual Scholarship Awards.”

Included in this year’s scholarship winners are students exhibiting extraordinary leadership and academic prowess. The recipients are General Scholarship Award: Samari Blair-Ely;  Cassandra Clermont-Fort Lauderdale; Alyissa Celestin-Pompano Beach; Rontavious  Jones-Boyd Anderson; Denejah Payne-Ely; Zorn Wyche-Monarch;  Tyler Paula-Stoneman Douglas; Valerie Lamb-Miramar; Jeremy Scott-St. Thomas Aquinas; Marc  Platel-Boyd Anderson; Shantoria Sumlin-Stranahan; Robert Bell-Nova; Jamielee Hunther-Piper; Shelia Chancoco-Piper and Zoe Wyche-Monarch. Mae Jenkins Scholarship: Pryscila Salings-Dillard; Va-lery Louis, Dave Thomas and Destini Dorsey-Dillard.
