Bishop Richard Allen Chappelle, Sr. the 108th elected and consecrated Bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2012 in St. Louis, Mo. He was born in Miami, Fla. He was ordained in the South Florida conference and was an educator in Broward County schools for 14 years.

Bishop Chappelle was a life member of the Bethune-Cookman University (BC-U) Alumni Association and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He leaves to mourn in his passing a loving wife of 46 years, Mother Barbara Chappelle; three children: Richard, Jr., Beverly (Curtis) Walker, Kristen (Don) Caldwell, two sisters; one brother and two grandsons.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2012 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mount Hermon AME Church. Funeral service will be held on Friday, April 13 at 11 a.m. at Mount Hermon, 401 N.W. Seventh Terr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla., with Bishop McKinley Young, Presiding Prelate, 11th Episcopal District, and eulogist. Interment: Dade Memorial Park, Miami, Fla. Postell’s Mortuary is pro-viding service for the Chappelle Family.
