MIAMI, FL — Rev. Al Sharpton, President and Founder of National Action Network (NAN), along with the National Board of Directors, has announced the appointment of Bishop Victor Curry as Southeast Regional Director of NAN. Already a national board member of NAN and one of the country’s leading preachers and advocates for social justice, Bishop Curry is Senior Pastor of one of the largest Black churches in Southeast Florida, the New Birth Baptist Church in Miami-Dade, Florida.

In his capacity as Southeast Regional Director of National Action Network, Bishop Curry will continue the expansion of chapters and lead activism efforts in the states of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Florida, Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, West Virginia and Kentucky.

“This is a tough time in America which means there is also great work to be done. I am privileged to help to provide leadership to these states,” said President Curry.

In the 2012 election, Bishop Curry led National Action Network’s “Operation Lemonade” tour throughout the state of Florida to get voters to the polls early. Bishop Curry will continue to advocate on behalf of NAN nationally around the issues of voter education, anti-violence, corporate responsibility, jobs, education and much more.

Bishop Victor T. Curry is the Founding Senior Pastor/Teacher of New Birth Baptist Church Cathedral of Faith International and currently serves as a National Board Member of NAN. Reverend Sharpton and Bishop Curry have worked together over the years to encourage, empower and enlighten the African American community in Florida on civil and voter’s rights. This event is another building block in this powerful collaboration.
