On Friday, June 7, 2013, Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) and the Broward Teachers Union – Technical Support Professionals (BTU-TSP) unit reached a tentative agreement for the 2012/13 school year. BCPS and BTU agreed to a 2 percent salary increase for approximately 462 employees, represented by the BTU, effective April 1, 2013.
In December 2012, discussions commenced for the 2012/13 year and concluded in June 2013 after both parties agreed to important changes, such as modifications to the layoff process.
“We recognize that our employee representatives were asked to make critical compromises in order to reach a tentative agreement for this year”, said Superintendent Robert W. Runcie. “We are pleased that this agreement addresses our commitment to maintaining a qualified workforce, which has a significant impact to the delivery of educational services to our students.“
Highlights of the agreement include:
- 2 percent of salary increase effective for employees effective April 1, 2013;
- Demotions for discipline shall result in immediate salary reduction;
- Establish a fund to provide training opportunities to acquire, maintain, and improve job skills; and
- Modified the layoff process for all Information Technology jobs.
The terms of the agreement were ratified by the BTU on Friday, June 14, 2013 and are expected to be approved by the School Board of Broward County, Florida
on June 18, 2013.
