By faith:‘Fifty fabulous years’

By Elayne Smauels

“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” — Genesis 2:24 (NJKV)

It was the summer of 1962, after having taught for a year in Hollywood, Fla., the young math teacher returned to his hometown of Daytona Beach, Fla., for the summer.

While attending Sunday service at his home church, Allen Chapel A.M.E., he noticed a young girl that had just moved to Daytona from Alabama to live with her aunt. They were later introduced and their conversations began.

Upon returning to Hollywood, Fla., to begin the next school year, he found himself going back to Daytona every weekend – to see her. Within the year the two were in love and on June 23, 1963, they became Mr. and Mrs. Frank Smith.

On Saturday, June 22, 2013, Frank and Aquillar Smith of Fort Lauderdale will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends at the Northwest Federated Women’s Club. Bishop Olrick Bethel of Compassion Christian Center (Belle Glade, Fla.) will lead them in the renewal of their vows. Elder Frank Smith and his Aquillar are members of Philadelphia New Life Christian Center with Pastor Darleen Jenkins and Evangelist Calvin Jenkins.

When asked the secret to marriage’s longevity, they both agreed that it is their ever-in-creasing faith in the Word of God and the fact that they have always been able to talk to each other.
