SOBEWWF 2022 South Beach Wine & Food Festival Adds the Flavor of Diversity.

     If you love food and wine, here is a treat you won’t want to miss. In a matter of weeks some of the area’s best chefs will have an opportunity to cater to your tastebuds. For 21 years the South Beach Wine & Food Festival (SOBEWFF) has been held in South Florida. It has been named by BizBash as the number one food and restaurant industry event in the United States and Canada for eight years in a row. Over the years, this event has featured celebrity chefs with a star-studded line up of personalities and dishes. It has also raised $31.8 million for the Chaplin School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at FIU which graduates more undergraduate Black, Hispanic and international students than any other hospitality school in the country. “60 Years Of Black Art” Black History Month Exhibit Opens At History Fort Lauderdale

In celebration of Black History Month, History Fort Lauderdale, proud steward of our community’s past by making our heritage accessible and engaging to residents and visitors, will present “60 Years of Black Art,” a fine art exhibit featuring works for show and sale from Dillard Center for the Arts’ Advanced Placement (AP) students, from February 1 – 28. The exhibit, curated by instructor Celestin Joseph, represents historical and contemporary themes of equality from the perspective of students at the very school that was instrumental in overturning segregation laws in the City of Fort Lauderdale 51 years ago. The exhibit will be open to the public at the New River Inn building of History Fort Lauderdale and will be accessible as a digital experience on History Fort Lauderdale’s YouTube channel. […]

Mayor Michelle J. Gomez Selected to ULI Leadership Institute’s Class Of 2022

     Gomez will participate in the 2022 Leadership Institute for the Southeast Florida/Caribbean District, which covers coastal counties from Indian River through Monroe, and throughout the Caribbean Islands. She is one of 35 leaders chosen through a competitive application process. During the program, participants will attend in-person sessions covering a range of topics from Design and Construction to Development and Capital Markets, as well as complete a leadership project that addresses land use and policy issues. We sound the clarion call for freedom fighters as we urge Floridians to reach out to Mr. Ben Frazier and the Northside Coalition and pledge support to a campaign to make Governor Ron DeSantis accountable. We also ask lovers of freedom to call the offices of Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott and demand they vote for the John Lewis Voting Rights Act and the Freedom to Vote Act. On New Year’s Day a good Samaritan died while trying to help a man who fell onto subway tracks during a gang assault in New York City. The assault victim, a 38-year-old male, was approached by multiple individuals in the Fordham Road subway station in the Bronx. According to police, the gang “displayed a knife and began assaulting him.” At a certain point, the victim of this assault landed on the subway tracks. Officials are not sure if he fell or was pushed. However, a 36-year-old witness went down to the to help the victim, but he was unfortunately stuck by the oncoming train, causing his death. […]
