Emotional constipation

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.       —Proverbs 9:10

While having breakfast with some friends, the topic of manhood came up. As we broached the subject someone said, “One of our problems is that we suffer from emotional constipation (EC).”

I thought to myself, ‘boy, what a topic for a manhood autopsy to be performed by such a group of experienced and qualified emergency room sociologists like us’.

I have heard a plethora of causes and symptoms to our self-destruction, but never had I heard it credited to this allergic virus that invades the bodies and minds of men; now even more it is affecting women- this thing called EC.

When one thinks of constipation, blockage comes to mind. Something causes the flow or passage of an item to a point where severe obstruction can easily lead to destruction.

A point of view to ponder if you will: Take a look at how our young people are wearing their pants, SAGGIN (what does that spell backwards? Ok that’s a conversation for another day) is what they call it, but it looks as if they are wearing shackles and are shuffling off to some prison camps. Or as if they have just defecated on themselves and do not want their pants to touch their precious little bottoms.

In the pretext of emotional constipation that saggin presents, which is the byproduct of the lack of self-esteem (no self-worth); it’s the attitude of the mob syndrome which prevents one from being oneself and allows the identity of the mob to become them.

The old expression that, “Men don’t cry,” is an emotional constipation that has created these little zombies running around in gangs doing hideous things to people because they just can’t express themselves in a manner that might not be man like. This EC could be portrayed in a homophobic behavior that kills from the inability to express hurt and pain with a so called ‘non manly action’.

EC has our families in turmoil, fighting and killing and turning us away from each other. We become physical first before reasoning with an emotional sense.

Emotional constipation brings out the physical attributes which are usually dangerous in nature.

Our girls, daughters and women suffer with EC when role reversal intrudes their thought process and they all of a sudden take on a phobia of being a lady. No longer do they feel the need to have a man or any form of compassion. All of a sudden this superwoman appears and …da, da her new anthem is, “I can do it all by myself.”

Our elderly induced with EC don’t want to have anything to do with young people because EC has produced a fear that permeates all the way to the core of our seniors. Grandparents fear their own grandchildren, even though they (grandparents) have to rear them because of another cause of EC.

EC has created a new kind of people who would prefer texting and technology over face to face conversation. EC has created false love and false love making in high-tech pornography and phone sex centers. To some it’s referred to as safe sex and to others it’s another way to avoid the emotional roller coaster that comes when we experience life with others.

Yes emotions run the breadth of living and cover and uncover our being. Therefore we should be alive and free to not allow EC to ruin our abilities to enjoy a full life while we live here on earth.

“Everything you were taught can be put into a few words: Respect and obey God! This is what life is all about. God will judge everything we do, even what is done in secret, whether good or bad.”                                                                 Ecclesiastic 12:13- 14

“When we feel as though we are about to suffer from emotional constipation; remove the fear with relaxation and do it without hesitation by getting caught up in the affirmation that God can handle any situation.”  By Bobby R. Henry, Sr.
