Eta Nu’s Lenroy Ellis extends mentoring initiatives beyond chapter

By Sylvester “Nunnie” Robinson

On Wednesday, April 10, 2013, the Fatherhood Mentorship Program graduation ceremony was held at Joseph C. Carter Park in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

The program teaches young fathers how to become responsible, loving Dads by espousing the following principles: set a good example for your children; make good memories with your children; be your children’s biggest fan; be a champion of good health; and listen to what your children are saying.

One of the prominent and dedicated mentors of the Fatherhood initiative is Eta Nu’s very own Lenroy Ellis, a member of our chapter’s most recent line,” The Centennial Ten”. Brother Ellis has extended his passion for helping others beyond Eta Nu’s very own extensive, effective and successful mentoring programs, namely the “Gentlemen of Influence” and “The Que Unit” to effect a positive change in the lives of young men throughout the whole of Broward County as manifested in his involvement with the Fatherhood Mentoring Program.

As a group session speaker himself and counselor with Florida Career College, he understands the importance and need for mentorship programs, especially in the Black community.

By selecting Eta Nu’s Harry Harrell, former 7th District Keeper of Finance and co-owner of Tom Jenkins Barbeque in Fort Lauderdale as key-note speaker for the graduation ceremony, Brother Ellis insightfully chose not only a high-ly successful entrepreneur and one heavily involved in the community, he also instinctively reasoned that Brother Harrell’s inspirational message would resonate with the young fathers in the audience. Eta Nu congratulates and salutes both Brother Ellis and Brother Harrell for their very laudable contributions to our community and to Omega Psi Phi.
