On Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, the Sigma Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. honored Omega’s  30th Grand Basileus, Dr.  Edward Braynon, Jr. at the 94th Aero Squadron Restaurant in Miami, Fla.

After graduating from Booker T. Washington in 1944, Brother Braynon continued his educational pursuits by enrolling in Fisk University, Nashville, Tenn. where he joined the Eta Psi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. He subsequently transferred to Howard University in Washing-ton where he completed his undergraduate studies, entered Howard’s School of Dentistry earning a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. Brother Braynon served his country admirably and honorably as a commissioned dental officer in the U.S. Air Force first as a lieutenant and then captain.

His fraternal history is impeccable, characterized by out-standing service rendered. From 1958 – 1963 he served as Sigma Alpha’s Basileus. He has also served the 7th District and the International organization in various leadership capacities: First vice District Representative, District Representative, First vice Grand Basileus and Grand Basileus. Eta Nu’s specific and vested interest in attending the tribute to honor Grand Basileus Braynon emanated from his extensive role and staunch support in establishing Eta Nu as the first Greek letter organization in Pompano Beach, Fla.

As the visionary leader of the 7th District, the largest in the fraternity (Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Mississippi), Brother Braynon’s guidance and unwavering support, according to our last surviving founder Brother James L. Jones, was the catalyst and primary reason for Eta Nu’s founding on June 11, 1969.

Under the outstanding leadership of our Basileus Antonio Brihm and the generosity of Founder James L. Jones, Eta Nu enthusiastically attended the tribute for Brother Braynon.

Other Eta Nu brothers in attendance included Leslie Gamble, Harry Harrell, Larry Leverett, Lennox George, Harry Hazelwood, Melvin Davis, Roderick Parker, Samuel Clear, Clifford Wimberly and Sylvester Robinson.

The entire Eta Nu brotherhood wishes Brother Braynon and family Godspeed as you continue life’s incredible journey.
