Miami Dolphins Press Release – 2013 FinsWeekend Kicks Off May 16-18
MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins Foundation will host FinsWeekend, its largest annual event featuring current players, alumni, coaches and cheerleaders, on May 16-18, 2013. The three-day extravaganza features an exciting weekend of golf, fishing and celebrities. All proceeds from FinsWeekend benefit the Miami Dolphins Foundation. The event has raised more than $3 million for local charities.
The festivities begin on Thursday, May 16, with the Celebrity Draw Party at Turnberry Isle. The party will include cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and interactive games such as putting, chipping, pitch shot and sand shot for unique prizes. On Friday, May 17, Dolphins players and alumni hit the green at Turnberry Isle’s award-winning golf course in Aventura for the FinsWeekend Golf Tournament. Players will tee-off with a shotgun start followed by a luncheon to announce the winners. Later that evening, the popular Hook & Tackle Captain’s Party will take place at the Miami Beach Marina, which will feature a silent auction and entertainment.
The following morning, on Saturday, May 18, amateur and professional anglers will meet at the Miami Beach Marina for the Miami Dolphins Foundation Fishing Tournament. Participants will enjoy a day of offshore fishing accompanied by Dolphins players and alumni. In the afternoon, all fishing participants will get together for the “Hooters” Weigh-in”. The first place finisher will receive a flight on the team charter to a Dolphins road game. That evening, attendees will gather for an awards ceremony to find out who walked away with the biggest catch.
About The Miami Dolphins Foundation
Established in 1996 as the fundraising arm of the Miami Dolphins Football Team, the Miami Dolphins Foundation is committed to making a difference year round in the South Florida community. Since Chairman/Managing General Partner Steve Ross assumed the leadership of the organization, Foundation refocused their philanthropic efforts to provide and support cornerstone programs in four distinct areas: health, education, youth fitness programs and volunteer activities. The Sun Life Rising Star Awards is the Foundation’s education cornerstone program, which gives out over $220,000 in grants and scholarships a year for students who cannot otherwise afford to further their education. The Foundation also established the Special Teams Program, a grass roots volunteer organization whose mission is to offer hands-on services to communities and families in need. The Special Teams program also partners with existing organizations on worthwhile social, civic and charitable programs, to provide assistance at Miami Dolphins Foundation events and to support the community in times of emergency. The Miami Dolphins Foundation youth programs currently work with more than 160,000 students throughout South Florida to promote fitness and a healthy lifestyle while growing the game of football.
