Obama strong on environmental issues gets the nod from Ted Turner

President Obama definitely got his mojo back in his debate against Republican challenger Mitt Romney on Tuesday night, and it appears that he is gaining momentum on the campaign trail as well. With the days to the November 6th election winding down, both candidates are doing everything that they can to persuade those remaining undecided voters to swing over into their camps.
President Obama just may be on his way to doing just that, as he received an around the way endorsement from television mogul and philanthropist Ted Turner on this mornings addition of CBS This Morning. Turner appeared on the morning news show to talk about his 1 billion dollar donation to the United Nations. Anchor Charlie Rose took the opportunity to ask Turner what he thought about the two men running for the presidency of the United States. Although it is noted that Tuner stated that either man would do a good job, after some careful nudging from Rose, Turner stated that he likes President Obama’s policies better.
Environmental issues are huge for Turner, and the president has been a pretty good champion for the environment, and has taken steps towards making the energy that we are currently using more sufficient and sustainable, and then there is Romney who throughout the entire time that he was seeking the Republican nomination, stated that the would eliminate the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency). Ronald Hwang, Transportation Director for the National Resources Defense Council Action Fund stated, “That Obama’s administration has done more to cut carbon in the auto industry than any other administration in history.”
Hwang’s comments were issued following the Obama administration’s issuing new rules in August of this year, that required automakers to double the fuel efficiency of their cars and trucks by 2015. This move by the administration prompted the praise of many environmental groups and individual environmentalists alike. The director of the National Resources Defense Council Action Fund told the New York Times in a recent interview, “Our nation will be more secure, our environment will be cleaner, and consumers will have more money in their pockets as a result of the new rule.” 13 automakers signed on to the new policies issued by the Obama Administration.
Under the Obama Administration’s watch watch we have more than doubled our production of renewable energy from wind and solar, while investing in over 15,000 clean energy projects across the country. Mitt Romney has said over and over again that he would cut funding and incentives for wind energy, which would cause 37,000 Americans to lose their jobs, but would continue to provide billions if dollars in subsidies to oil companies.
President Obama established the first national safeguards to cut down on mercury and other toxic air emissions from power plants, which will prevent up to 11,000 premature deaths, 540,000 missed work days, and 130,000 cases of asthma each year, helping to keep our children out of the hospital and in school. Mitt Romney has vowed to weaken the Clean Air Act and roll back standards that reduce mercury pollution, putting Americans and especially children at risk for asthma, other respiratory diseases, heart attacks, and cancer.
President Obama has enacted the largest expansion of wilderness protection in a generation, and established the country’s first comprehensive ocean policy, supporting tens of millions of jobs and ensuring that more of our nation’s outdoor heritage can be enjoyed by future generations. From the Great Lakes to the Gulf and the Rockies to the Smoky Mountains, he is working to preserve our environment and protect our natural outdoor heritage. Mitt Romney has not only embraced the Republican plan to sell off 3.3 million acres of national parks and public lands, but has vowed to move forward with it if he is elected president. Mitt Romney has said that he doesn’t know “what the purpose” of public lands are.
