POMPANO BEACH, FL — On Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012 from 11:30am-1:30pm, the Crockett Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded by former NFL players Henri Crockett (Minnesota Vikings) and Zack Crockett (Oakland Raiders), will provide a Thanksgiving feast for Broward County’s homeless and less fortunate at the Saint Laurence Chapel Day Shelter (1698 Blount Road) in Pompano Beach, Fla.

Over 100 of Broward County’s homeless are expected to attend, where the Crockett brothers and volunteers from the Zeta Rho Omega Chapter (Fort Lauderdale) of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and the Eta Nu Chapter (Pompano Beach) of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity will prepare and serve a traditional Thanksgiving meal, including turkey, ham and all the trimmings, in a tent with music, gifts and activities, all free of charge.

The Saint Laurence Chapel Day Shelter has been providing hot showers, hot breakfast and lunch, clothing, case management and other services to the homeless and near homeless for over 23 years.

According to Jo Ann Fletcher, executive director of St. Laurence, last year the shelter “provided over 40,000 meals and 250,000 pounds of food to those that were in need. She added, “There is an overwhelming need of support for the homeless in our own community. With the generous support from the Crockett Foundation, we are able to give these people hope, joy and a sense of security on this day of thanks.”

Henri and Zack Crockett grew up in Pompano Beach and both graduated from Ely High School and Florida State University before being drafted to the NFL. “This is our fourth year and we look forward to giving back to our community. It saddens me to see the number of people who are homeless in our community and the numbers continue to increase each year,” said Henri Crockett.  “Because we grew up here, Pompano Beach holds a special place in our hearts.

We are hoping to inspire people everywhere to unite and do their part to help the less fortunate in their communities and not only at this time of the year but throughout the year.”
