FORT LAUDERDALE, FL –Wells Fargo, a longtime supporter of the Urban League of Broward County, made a $300,000 contribution towards the Urban League’s capital campaign project recently. The intimate group of company representatives came together for the check presentation at the Urban League’s newly named Sunshine Health Community Empowerment Center in Fort Lauderdale.

“Wells Fargo is proud to support the initiatives of organizations that assist lower income families and provide services for the betterment of our South Florida communities,” said Frank Newman, South Florida Regional President at Wells Fargo. “We are happy to partner with the Urban League of Broward County and we appreciate all that they do to make Broward County a better place to live and work.”

The donation will help in the Urban League’s efforts to maintain and expand its programs, services and outreach. Since the opening of this building last April, the 28,000-square-foot facility has had a foot presence of over 4,000 people and has hosted over 140 events in their main multipurpose space.

“From hosting workshops in our multipurpose room to providing state-of-the-art digital classrooms, this building has the capacity to create endless opportunities and carry out our vision for the organization,” said President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Germaine Smith-Baugh.

Prior to the check presentation, the Urban League had recently celebrated its first year anniversary and naming ceremony which brought in over 200 attendees to the Sunshine Health Community Empowerment Center.

“On behalf of the Urban League, our staff and the children and families we serve, I would like to thank Wells Fargo for their generous gift to the Urban League,” said Smith-Baugh. “It is due to the support of partners like Wells Fargo, that the Urban League is strong and continues to be a constructive force in the economic and social development of our community,” she said.
