Who is wrong with the American Government
Who is wrong with the American Government
By Natasha Dowdy Gordon
Grover Norquist is sitting high on his throne, and is probably feeling pretty good about himself right now. Norquist’s Taxpayer Protection Pledge has propelled him to unprecedented notoriety in American politics. Norquist has amassed an enormous amount of power since he drafted his pledge in 1986.
When you consider the fact that Norquist single handedly pushed his one single issue through Congress and state legislatures to the point that his 60 word pledge controls the Republican party’s fiscal plat-form, and has become the dominate factor in the nation’s debate regarding how to manage the debt ceiling crisis, Norquist’s rise to power is mind blowing.
Considering the position that the Republican party is currently in, and the current financial situation of the country, it is frankly something beyond amazing, that the one person responsible for both has never been elected to a public office.
Last week we delved into Norquist’s influence in countries all over the world. His ability to market himself and his ideals has generated for him a reputation which has set him up to be a real player in world politics.
The Tea Party movement has done a fantastic job in so far as spreading Norquist message about smaller government and pushing back against sweeping tax reform, to the masses, but when the totality of the man known as Grover Norquist is fully evaluated, the question will need to be answered as to the continued backing and admiration of the man currently playing eeny-meeny-miny-moe, who has a nation by its toe.
The anti-Muslim anti-Islamic sediment in the United States has exploded over the last three years. President Obama was attacked over and over again on the campaign trail in 2008, and again in 2012 as he was labeled as being a Muslim and a Terrorist. The battle over the building of a community center which would contain a Mosque as well as other spiritual sites near Ground Zero, nearly paralyzed the country for months. On August 19, 2012 The Washington Post reported that nearly 20 percent of the American public believe that President Obama is a Muslin.
It is amazing that the very people who appear to be so anti-Muslim and anti-Islam have managed to rally so protectively around Grover Norquist, as Mr. Norquist’s ties to Islamic Supremacist and jihadists Sadistseen known and his relationships with these groups have talked about in political circles for years.
Norquist and his wife Samah Alrayyes are very active in Muslim outreach. Ms. Alrayyes is Palestinian, and she actually served as the director of communications for Norquist’s Islamic Free Market Institute up until their marriage in 2005.
The New Republic ran an expose mapping out the details of how Grover Norquist arranged for President George W. Bush to meet with fifteen Islamic Supremacist at the White House just six short weeks after 9/11.
With media present, and with the 15 jihadists who were all ushered into the Oval Office by Norquist, President Bush told the world, “The teachings of Islam are teachings of peace and good.” These theatrics played out on the World’s stage on the afternoon of September 26, was meant to be a statement to the world that America’s Muslim leaders rejected the terror committed in the name of Islam. Sadly not all of the actors on the stage that faithful day were totally in sync with the sentiments of the president who allowed Norquist to usher this unlikely cast of characters into the America’s most famous office.
President Bush had complete faith and trust in Norquist every since Norquist helped to put him on the map while he was the governor of the state of Texas, so when Norquist vouched for the cast of fifteen, that was all that Bush needed to hear; and this was in spite of the fact that writings existed which suggested that Norquist had engaged quite a bit of time promoting people who were known to be sympathetic to Islamic terrorists.
In December of 2003, David Horowitz wrote that Norquist, “…has formed alliances with prominent Islamic radicals who have ties to the Saudis and to Libya, and to Palestine Islamic Jihad, and who are now under indictment by U.S. Authorities. Just as disturbing is that the arrest of these individuals and their exposure as agents of terrorism have not resulted in noticeable second thoughts on Grover’s part or any meaningful effort to dissociate himself from his unsavory friends.” This was written as an introduction to an extremely detailed expose written by Frank Gaffney, which showed how Norquist had given Muslims with Jihad terror links access to the highest levels of the United States government.
