A political pool of deceit and deception

See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, [a]rather than according to Christ.                                                Colossians 2:8 (NASB)

By Bobby R. Henry, Sr.

Our pool at home is a thing of beauty. I enjoy sitting around it and watching its sparking crystal clear blue water, especially when the pump is on and the water is being moved around the pool.

This thing of beauty can quickly turn ugly during the rainy season if left unchecked and not supported with proper cleaning and added chemicals.

As with a lot of things around our home that calls for, shall I say, “manly” attention, I like to try and do them myself. My wife doesn’t always agree with me. However, she lets me try until the cost exceeds $50. I guess my efforts are worth that much.

After returning from a business trip, to which my wife had forewarned me of the condition of the pool, I found our once inviting and alluring swimming pool green with envy as if we were planning a St. Patrick’s Day celebration and the pool was the center of attention.

Now, mind you, as I was planning my course of action to correct this mishap, CNBC was broadcasting the latest calamities, slip-ups and outright lies from the Republican Party.

While my center of attention was on my stagnant, polluted pool, I suppose the political mendacities and life’s stings have a lot in common-unchecked and exposed to the elements, a lot of contamination and torpid circumstances will arise.

While the clarity and the crystal clear pristine look of our pool can be rejuvenated, the political process and the ironies of life are a bit more difficult to reshape and reconfigure to conform to the rightful position focus of integrity.

Inept ability coupled with the human superficial need to be in control over and suppressive of another, has led us to a necessity for greed.

Unfortunately, this persona has the look of an identical twin in the face of the Republican Party which is being bought and paid for by millionaires and billionaires like Mitt Romney, the Koch brothers and others, most of whom believe that “money can buy any and everything.”

If left unchecked, like a crystal clear, pristine pool, our entire society will become a green slimy pond of goo.

But, we can prevent this infiltration of contaminants by getting out and voting on Nov. 6, 2012.

All we need is a reminder of the 2010 mid-term election results. While we slept, Rick Scott became governor, Allen West was elected to Congress and the right-wing conservatives and Tea Partiers took control of Congress. We simply cannot allow this election to become a cesspool of right-wing, racist revisionism. We must vote en masse to avoid the unthinkable.
