AKA Chapter wins big at 65th conference

Barbara Thomas, president Chi Psi Omega Chapter of AKA Sorority in Coral Springs holds prestigious Ethel Award.

    Chi Psi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated won the coveted Ethel Award at its biennial conference, 65th Boule in San Francisco, Calif., held July 21-27, 2012.

    The Ethel Award, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority‘s highest in competition, is presented to a graduate chapter that wins first place in its region, competes against eight other regions and wins first place. 

    The chapter entered scrap-book competition for international program Initiative IV: Economic Security, which demonstrated the chapter made a difference within its community for estate planning, homeownership, business ownership, and wealth building.

    This was the only international award for this category and the only award presented to a chapter in the South Atlantic Region, largest region of the sorority.

    More than 8,500 sorors were in attendance for the conference. Seventeen chapter members were in attendance to witness this history making event.
