On Feb. 27 2013 at the Hyatt Regency, Pier 66, Fort Lauderdale, Fla. in support of the fight against heart disease, Chapter President JoeAnn Fletcher, the Health Committee Co-Chairs, Keisha Harden, Lynette Johnson, Margaretta Kearson, Sylvia Sloan Jones, and the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Zeta Rho Omega Chapter, participated in their first partnership event with HCA Hospital which included East Florida Division-Northwest Medical Center, Plantation General Hospital, University Hospital, and Westside Regional Medical Center. The chapter members wore red attire in observance of National Heart Month, to raise awareness about the prevention of heart disease and how to take steps to be heart healthy, and wise.
The Heart Symposium consisted of a boutique presentation, with a variety of vendors, and light hors d’oeuvres followed by special heart discussions from a panel of local expert physicians including Jonathan D. Hofberger, D.O., F.A.C.O.S – Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeon; Leslie Flores, MD, FACC – Pediatric Cardiology; Jabal Uffelman, MD – Obstetrics and Gynecology and David N. Kenigsberg, MD FACC.
With one hundred plus attendees, the Zeta Rho Omega Chapter members and guest participants learned about health conditions in children and adults as well as how hormones affect the heart. Pertinent health-related questions were answered after the four medical experts gave very informative presentations.
The ladies had activities all month including the National Kick-off Day for Heart Disease “Pink Goes Red” day where ladies of this sorority wore red instead of their usual color pink. For more information about this organization visit our web at www.zetarhoomega.org.
