TALLAHASSEE, FL—Alex Vindman and his wife Rachel were all smiles when he walked into the Division of Elections office to qualify as a Democrat to run for the US Senate. The quite unassuming man decided to meet the moment and get in the race. While pundits say, “Vindman has an uphill climb,” excited political insiders say the contrary. The 50-year-old retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel appeals to voters exhausted by the chaos. Armed with honesty and integrity, Vindman defines himself by those traits. He was the primary witness against President Donald Trump in the 2019 impeachment trial. He was also a member of the National Security Council and testified that he witnessed Trump pressuring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to investigate Joe Biden and his son before the 2020 election.

And while the Purple Heart recipient displayed fearlessness against Trump, his commitment is to restore affordability to Floridians. “The system is rigged for the elites.  I’m fighting for ordinary people to have a voice.”

The excitement over Vindman’s entry into the race is such that he raised $1.7 million from small donors in 24 hours and over $8 million by April 1, outraising his likely opponent, Republican US Senator Ashley Moody. It was remarkable.

And if you don’t know Moody, few Floridians do. Thirty-six percent approved of her, 28% disapproved, and 36% were neutral or unfamiliar with her. Her low approval ratings track Donald Trump’s slide into elected-official purgatory.

Moody’s complete fealty to Donald Trump is not a good sign because 2/3rds of the independent swing voters, who constitute 1/3 of Florida voters, are voting against Republicans.

Knowing that the race for the US Senate seat will be the greatest challenge he’s faced, Vindman put it this way, “Florida will be one of the most expensive Senate races in the nation.  Special interests will have unlimited amounts of money to tear me down and try to protect their rigged system.  But in the infantry, we didn’t back down from a fight.  We ran towards it.”
