B-CU Student Receives Dream Opportunity

Submitted by Ursula James

Marcus Postell is a senior majoring in Computer Science, with a minor in Business Administration from Opa Locka, Florida. Most recently, Marcus received one of his life’s dreams to learn from some of the best media industry leaders. Out of 955 applicants, only 91 students were selected to attend the, ‘Spotify Opening Act HBCU Conference;’ Marcus being the first student to represent Bethune-Cookman University.

The Spotify Opening Act HBCU Conference is a three-day experience, welcoming eager sophomore, junior, and senior students that attend historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), with an interest in the music-tech and media industries. “Throughout this experience, I heard from executives and thought-leaders within the music, tech and media industries,” Marcus said. “I saw first-hand what a career path in these fields look like, and gained valuable insight on what it will take to achieve my career goals. I also had the chance to network and build community with other HBCU students across the nation, all while immersed in the vibrant energy of New York City,” he shared with excitement.

While away for the conference, Marcus also toured and met those in the industry that work for BuzzFeed, explored the city through bus and boat tours, and saw a live perform by upcoming artist Kevin Ross. “I hope I represented Bethune-Cookman well!” Marcus currently represents B-CU as 2017-2018 Mister Senior. After graduation, Marcus plans to attend his top choice, Georgia Institute of Technology, also known as Georgia Tech, to receive his masters in Human Computer Interaction and become a software engineer for NASA.
