Big Brothers Big Sisters Hosts 41st Annual Fishing Tournament Presented by Moss Construction

      Approximately 100 Littles and their Bigs casted out their lures in hopes of reeling in something BIG at the recent Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County’s annual fishing tournament presented by Moss Construction and hosted by Bahia Mar Yachting Center.  The tournament attracted 17 boat captains who volunteered their boats, equipment and time to create special memories for Little Brothers and Little Sisters, who ranged in age from six to 17. Awards and winners included:


Biggest Fish

First place:  Little Brother Paul and Little Sister Ana with a 38” dolphin caught on Blue Fin with Captain Jack Milbery, a Big Brothers Big Sisters Board Member

Second place: Little Sister Ta’leah with a 36” dolphin, caught on Fish On! with Captain Andy Duke

Big Sister Derby Clark with Little Sister Justic.

Third place: Little Sister Charnise with a 32” dolphin caught on Fish On! with Captain Andy Duke

Most Fish

First place:  Little Brothers Nashon and Mark with 30 fish total, caught on Lyn-de II with Captain Daniel Kamperveen

Second place:  Little Brothers James and Guy with 27 fish total, caught on Lyn-de II with Captain Daniel Kamperveen

Third place: Little Brother Roby with 26 fish total, caught on Snappers and Grunts with Captains Mike Cunningham and Karen Tedesco

Smallest Fish

Winner:  Keteria with a 3” grunt caught on Scarab Zoom with Captain Rod Valez

“All of our youth had such a great time,” said Malena Mendez, President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County.  “We’re so grateful to be able to offer them this experience, thanks to our many volunteer captains and wonderful sponsors.”

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County Board member Cheryl Seinfeld led the Fishing Tournament as chair supported by a strong committee comprised of Trevor Carroll, board members Bill Saunderson, Fatima Perez and John Corrado and tournament founder John Weller.
