Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick commits to delivering for District 20 & Florida families

Representative Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL ) was sworn in Saturday for her first full term in the United States House of Representative from Florida’s 20th Congressional District. The 20th Congressional District consists of several cities in Broward and Palm Beach counties, to include Belle Glade, Lauderdale Lakes, Tamarac, Lauderhill, North Lauderdale parts of Pompano, Plantation, Sunrise, West Palm, and Fort Lauderdale.

Cherfilus-McCormick’s initial scheduled swearing in to the 118th Congress, for January 3, was delayed due to the gridlock the House experience when they fail to elect a speaker on 14 separate votes.

Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick is honored to serve on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, the House Committee on Transportation & Infrastructure, as well as the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs. “I am honored that the people of District 20 have entrusted me with the responsibility of representing them in Congress. Together, I look forward to putting people over politics, working to lower costs, create better paying jobs, and make our communities safer,” Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick said. “I am ready to work with Republicans and Democrats to deliver for the American people. And I am ready to fight for our values whenever they come under attack.”

“I’m committed to tackling the housing crisis, developing economic opportunities to increase wages and build generational wealth, expanding access to affordable quality healthcare, and humanely reforming our broken immigration system. I’m fighting for the future of District 20.”

She is the first Haitian American Democrat to be elected to Congress and proudly represents Florida’s 20th District.
