Important to Know

*Number of coronavirus cases are again on the rise in Florida – There has been a significant increase in new coronavirus cases in Florida over the previous week. 1.4 million people have been tested in Florida, of which 5.4% (75,568) have tested positive for coronavirus. In Broward county, 142,292 people have been tested, of which 6.3% (8,928) are positive. Although there has been an increase in the volume of testing, we cannot discount the possibility that having more people out and about and relaxation of social distancing measures may account for some of the increase in the number of coronavirus cases. The best way to reduce exposure to coronavirus is to avoid going into high-risk environments.

*Understand higher-risk environments – It is not possible to eliminate our risk of exposure to coronavirus, but it is possible to greatly reduce exposure risk by identifying higher-risk environments and activities and avoiding these, as best we can. Crowded indoor spaces like restaurants, movie theaters and gyms present a higher risk for infection with coronavirus. Limit your exposure to these environments if possible. Always wear face covering if you go into indoor locations. Maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from others when out in public. Outdoor activities are safer than indoor activities, but it is still important to maintain good social distancing while out and about.

*Understand your personal risks – If you have underlying conditions such as diabetes, respiratory illnesses, hypertension, among others, it is important to limit exposure to high-risk activities that may ex-pose you to coronavirus. These underlying health conditions can worsen the course of an infection with coronavirus and can lead to a serious or deadly course of infection.

*Coronavirus remains a serious pathogen – The virus has not disappeared; warm, sunny weather has not eliminated it. The virus is still circulating and if left unchecked, will lead to serious public health circumstances once more. Remain vigilant and protect your health.
