Denny’s has partnered with Health in the Hood to introduce healthier food choices and address food insecurity in underserved communities. Along with education, ending childhood hunger is a major initiative for Denny’s.
Denny’s officials, including the Mobile Relief Diner, will join Health in the Hood, founded by CEO, Asha Walker in 2013, Health in the Hood set out to connect communities to wellness with a simple idea – local vegetable gardens to feed, engage and empower communities in need.
The Mobile Relief Diner will be serving a hearty breakfast of pancakes and turkey bacon at the event. Denny’s Mobile Relief Diner has served more than 50,000 pancake breakfasts in disaster-stricken areas since 2017. That August, just after Hurricane Harvey devastated Houston, Texas, Denny’s rented a mobile kitchen, set it up in the city, and staffed it with workers who handed out pancakes, bacon, and coffee to residents, first responders, and volunteers. It served 7,000 meals in six days, before packing up and heading to South Florida, to take care of those who were affected by Hurricane Irma. It served another 7,000 meals there.
This will take place between 10 a.m. and Noon, Thursday, at Aladdin Street and Ali Baba Avenue in Opa-locka.
