The PEARLS Foundation Inc, in partnership with the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Upsilon Xi Omega chapter is pleased to announce its presentation of Derby Day 2024 “Racing Toward Academic Excellence”, Celebrating the Kentucky Derby, May 4th at the GulfStream Racing and Casino Park located at 901 South Federal Highway in Hallandale Beach, Florida.
Saturday, May 4th from 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., the event will replicate the feel of the Derby and demonstrate our connection with the rich history of the Kentucky Derby, in that thirteen (13) of the fifteen (15) original jockeys were Black. One noted jockey is Oliver Lewis, who dominated the winner’s circle. The festivities on May 4th will include a complimentary welcome drink (glass of wine or beer), access to two (2) full buffets, cash bar, the viewing of continuous horse races and the running of the 150th Kentucky Derby Race. You may view the races in the stands outside or in the air-conditioned dining area. There will be door prizes, raffle tickets and silent auction items. Winners will have the opportunity to meet the winning jockey. Attendees are encouraged to dress in DERBY attire with hats, gloves, sundresses, fedoras, and bowties to create the excitement of the atmosphere and participate in the best dressed attire contest.
Guests can take advantage of additional amenities on Saturday that include shopping at the exclusive Gulf Stream Shoppes, Spa services, Casino gaming or simply eating, drinking, relaxing and watching the races. Hope to see you there.
