Forward Florida Action Announces Grassroots Mini-Grants

On National Voter Registration Day, Forward Florida Action Launches Grants Program to Empower Local Grassroots Groups to Register & Reengage Voters

MIAMI, FL — Today, Forward Florida Action announced the launch of a unique grassroots mini-grant program that will empower local grassroots groups to re-engage and register voters in their communities with $1,000 to $5,000 grants.

Forward Florida mini-grants will provide activists with funding, training, and on-going support. Local, neighborhood groups have little to no resources to support their volunteer efforts. By supporting their grassroots effort with funding and information to break down the barriers to entry and success, enhance the work, Forward Florida Action  is empowering grassroots progressives without the resources of large, established organizations to take their passion projects to the next level.

All progressive Floridians are welcome and eligible to apply for a Forward Florida Action mini-grant. Prior political experience or affiliation with an existing organization is not necessary; and Forward Florida Action specifically welcomes local clubs, civic and social justice organizations, and informal groups of activists to take part in voter reengagement and registration.

“Neighbors talking to neighbors — that’s how we’re going to empower everyday Floridians to flip Florida blue. We are putting the tools to re-engage and register voters in the hands of everyday Floridians,” said Forward Florida Action executive director Rosy Gonzalez Speers. “Florida Republicans have tried to crush progressive activism in Florida by making it nearly impossible for the grassroots to register voters. Today, we’re carrying forward Andrew Gillum’s legacy and giving everyday people the tools to fight back.”

“Floridians know well that power cedes nothing without a demand — but our historic campaign last year showed us that when we make demands and claim our own power, remarkable things are possible. With these grants, we’re doing exactly that — and I look forward to working with all of you to flip Florida blue,” said Andrew Gillum.

This investment in community groups follows FFA’s investment of $1 million into voter registration activities.

To begin the application for a mini-grant, please email your interest to info@andrewgillum.com. Mini-grants will be awarded through March 31, 2020.
