Grooms marrying in India must prove that they own a toilet

From WorldBlackWorld

A mass marriage ceremony is set to take place in India this week. In the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, they are going to bring together a large group of people for them to be joined in holy matrimony.

But, in order for the happy couples to be given the right to marry, there is one important requirement. All men who participate in the ceremony must prove that they own a toilet.

India’s 2011 census showed that less than half of all residents own a toilet in their home.   The government is seeking to improve sanitation by asking all grooms to send in a picture of themselves with their own toilet or prove that they plan to have one installed within 30 days.
