He said: Nicole, there is ample speculation that President Trump is interested in granting more pardons, specifically for his family and some acolytes. There are some legal hurdles on this course. For instance, the history of preemptive pardons is very sparse! Consider almost every court will not give you standing to have that proposition heard.
First you have to have been convicted of a crime. Innocent people do not need, or get pardons! This projected idea says a lot about the exposure of the Trump administration!
She said: I have never before seen so many people in one place, all committing crimes. That must be a record of some sort! The whole bunch of them should go to prison, but pardons would certainly save the courts some time.
You’ll remember that Gerald Ford granted Nixon a preemptive pardon, ostensibly so that the nation could get back on track more quickly. Yeah, right! More likely the “Old Boy’s Network”, just as we’re about to see in action again.
He said: You got that right sister! What has me concerned is the waste of court time for the concept of Trump pardoning himself. You’re smart and know your history; the Founders left England for a reason! They did not want to be governed by a person who assumed himself to be above the law. Should Trump attempt a self pardon it will not be successful. When the litigation elevates to the Supreme Court, it will be repudiated! There is no precedent for that motion. In addition, the Founders did not obfuscate their posture about any person being above the law. In fact the voters just exhibited their opinion of that concept. Hello President Biden!
She said: It would be interesting to see it litigated and settle the issue once and for all. In my opinion, the only thing Trump was good for is identifying chinks in the armor of democracy so we can repair them!
