A forum, Understanding Florida’s Open Carry and Stand Your Ground Laws, will be held on October 23, 2025, 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Fort Lauderdale/Broward NAACP Branch President Marsha A. Ellison, along with guest speakers Broward County Public Defender Hon. Harold Pryor, Broward County State Attorney; Hon. Dr. Gregory Tony, Broward County Sheriff; and Judge Iona M. Holmes, Retired NAACP FTL/Broward General Counsel, will serve as forum panelists.
With the recent legalization of Open Carry in Florida, many residents are seeking clarity on their rights and responsibilities. While the law allows certain individuals to openly carry firearms, there remain locations and situations where carrying a gun is still prohibited.
Questions about where guns cannot be carried and how Stand Your Ground laws apply have left some Floridians uncertain about legal boundaries.
To help residents navigate these complex issues, local organizations are offering informational sessions designed to provide clear, factual guidance on Florida’s firearm laws. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn the specifics of Open Carry, restricted areas, and Stand Your Ground rights, ensuring they understand the law before exercising it.
