Pat Riley does it again! The Miami Heat consummated the biggest trade since LeBron James, trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo- the Greek Freak – making the Heat at the very minimum championship contenders. The Heat’s acquisition of Giannis wasn’t cheap as they gave up 4 players and 4 draft picks including Tyler Herro and Kel’el Ware. The Heat won the battle for Giannis against the Celtics because they had greater capital, particularly draft picks. Let’s go Heat!
While cruising to and from, I tend to channel surf radio stations and I landed on a FOX Sports Network where broadcaster Colin Cowherd was discussing the possibility that LSU football coach Lane kiffin and former LSU head coach Ed Ogeron, coach of the Tigers’ most recent championship and presently an assistant on Kiffin’s staff, had accrued the nation’s top transfer class in ‘26. I guarantee you that 90% of the class is Black which tells me that neither parents or players understand the political landscape emanating from the White House to the gerrymandering, redistricting confederate states like Louisiana. Nor the power they have to effect change.
A recent Supreme Court decision gutted the 1965 Voting Rights Act ruling a map unconstitutional because it relied too heavily on race. Popular 47 supporting Louisiana governor Jeff Landry suspended primaries after the decision. Race matters and in America always favors the majority.
Meanwhile, the world of sports remains a compelling interest nationally and internationally. On Monday the Oklahoma Sooners won the 2026 NCAA College World Series, soundly defeating the North Carolina Tar Heels 13-2 in the final of 3-game series. The Miami Marlins continue playing well, having achieved a 40-39 record, fourth place in the Eastern Division, 9 games behind the Atlanta Braves. They are worth watching as the All-Star break approaches.
Our two-time Stanley Cup winning Florida Panthers have made a remarkable trade for Brady Tkachuk, teaming him with his brother Mathew, automatically placing them in position to compete for a title next year.
Lionel Messi established a scoring record in the annals of World Cup competition when he scored his 18th goal, continuing his dominance on the world soccer stage.
Then the NBA draft begins tonight with the Washington Wizards holding the first pick. The prevailing belief is that BYU’s A.J. Dybantsa will be the top pick. Other possible selections include Darryn Peterson of Kansas and Duke’s Cam Boozer.
Wyndham Clark won the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills, his second Open title while Sarena Williams has been given an exemption to play Wimbledon.
Dusty Maye of NCAA champions Michigan Wolverines is set to become the new coach of the Dallas Mavericks.
And while all of this is going on, I remind you about the importance of voting in the mid terms to stymie and check the outlandish runaway train perpetrating democratic representation. If our vote didn’t matter, why do they exert so much pressure and energy trying to suppress it. Think about it….
