As I have grown older, time seems to pass by with greater speed. Though the football season is just beginning, we are moving at warped speed toward Week 3. Or is it just my imagination?
Early results place defending MEAC and Celebration Bowl champion South Carolina State and head coach Chennis Berry as favorites to repeat against SWAC powers Jackson State, Alabama State, and Grambling State. Although predictions and projections are intrinsic to sports, the beauty is that the results will ultimately be decided on the field of play.
The talent gap between FBS, FCS, and Division II schools became acutely apparent based on the final scores of so-called “payout games.” The U pulverized FAMU 77–7, Southern lost to the Houston Cougars 77–6, Hampton was soundly defeated by Maryland 62–0, and TCU handed Grambling a 64–7 defeat. You get the picture. HBCUs don’t have the talent or financial resources to compete with FBS programs. The financial payoff is certainly a budgetary benefit for our schools, but injuries and morale are necessary considerations. The average point differential was 51 points, obviously resulting from integration, which began in the early ’70s. I don’t believe our past leaders—proponents of integration—understood the overall negative impact it would have on various aspects of our community.
How uninformed and gullible is the American electorate when the “lunatic-in-chief” could openly offer a $5,000 bribe to retain control of the government? His degradation of the office of the presidency seems to have no bounds.
Rapper Macklemore was removed from Ed Sheeran’s tour after New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft allegedly intervened because of Macklemore’s pro-Palestine comments, which were perceived as controversial. My question is: How can a statement supporting the Palestinian people, who are overt victims of the Trump/Netanyahu genocide, be perceived as antisemitic?
The midterms can’t come fast enough for me. Prayerfully, the voters have done their homework. Have you seen images of Mitch McConnell lately? The Republicans have no shame and will do anything and everything to remain in power. I firmly and steadfastly believe that there should be term and age limits for the Supreme Court, Congress, and the Senate. Our democracy depends on it!!!
