“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” Emma Lazarus, 11/02/1883: These inspirational words never implied entry without a uniform Rule of Naturalization. John Johnson II, 10/11/23
By John Johnson II
America has struggled with an immigration problem for more than a Century. Regrettably, this problem is due to the federal government’s refusal to pass a new comprehensive immigration policy, failure to fully enforce the existing policy and refusing to correctly label the problem. A cursory review of this problem suggests that it is impossible to draft a policy in the absence of correctly labeling the problem. America’s borders are facing a strategic overrun by asylum seekers, migrants, refugees, and immigrants armed with their dire needs.
History reveals that in 1873, the San Francisco Chronicle ran a press release advertising a forthcoming book entitled, “The Chinese Invasion.” The book warned that 900,000 were coming and that they would establish a heathen Chinese despotism in San Francisco.
A warning was also issued that “one day they would overthrow the present Republic of the United States.” These false alarms led to the passage of the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882. This law banned this entire population of people from entering America based on their nationality. But as history has revealed, immigrant groups such as Chinese and Koreans, never attempted to overthrow this governmen
Regrettably, approximately 150 years later, immigrants labeled as invaders are accused of one day ushering in the “the great replacement theory. Amazingly, history shows that it was white settlers who really attempted and nearly committed genocide of Native Indians.
A central question remains unanswered to this very day. And it reads, “Why does a segment of white Americans find it necessary to villainize newly arriving groups of immigrants? There have been two attempts to overthrow this government, and they both were executed primarily by white People.
Black people were enslaved for 246 years but have never attempted to overthrow the U.S. Government. Nevertheless, they staged countless rebellions against white slave owners attempting to gain their freedom. Black people as slaves fought in the American Revolutionary War of 1812 to help secure this Country’s independence from Great Britian.
Once Black people were freed by the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863, they again fought with uncanny bravery in the Civil War as well as every war since then to defend America’s freedoms. Despite, treated as second class citizens and years of Jim Crow, Black people continue to support and defend America.
America cannot afford any longer to ignore the magnitude of the immigration problem. The current immigration policy is outdated and needs replacing with a new comprehensive immigration policy, with adequate funding, and enforcement regulations. Additionally, Congress should act with prudence and stand against labeling immigrants as invaders.
The world is watching to see if America is going to allow immigrants to be villified as Hitler did to Jews, LGBTQ individuals, physically and mentally disabled, Romanies, and Poles. The German people were aware of these tortured and murdered. This Country should never behave in this manner towards anyone.
Article 1, Section 8, clause 4 of the United States Constitution specifically grant Congress the power to establish a “uniform Rule of Naturalization; therefore, by failing to develop and pass a revitalized comprehensive Immigration Policy. It’s noticeably clear, Congress has been derelict in the performance of its Constitutional duties.
Our government, the Congress, functions with two major political parties, Republicans and Democrats. Voters can easily determine which party is refusing to reach a compromise to develop a new Comprehensive Immigration Policy. If our government is of, for and by the people, then we the people have the power to fire them. Instead, voters allow their political affiliations to draw their attention from the real culprits, Congress!
Consequently, without a new policy, America’s borders remain overrun by far too many immigrants wanting to enter this Country. Their reasons for coming are to get a better job, education, reunite with relatives, escape gangs’ violence, flee crime infested neighborhoods, and to avoid an assassination.
Wow! This actually describes conditions in most large cities and States in America. Each year well over 2,700 violent deaths occur in New York State. California In 2022, reported that approximately 193,019 people were victims of violent crime. Yet these citizens remain stuck in their own crime infested states. Do they not need help also?
If crimes of this nature are committed in just two of our own States, it’s distinguished to think that there aren’t any criminals amongst these immigrants. Also, shouldn’t precautions apply to determine if they’ve contracted any diseases or illnesses during their treacherous journey?
Both Republican and Democrat voters are correct, borders overrun as well as unsecured require a new comprehensive Immigration policy. States shouldn’t be burden with responsibilities for securing, defending, and financing borders overrun by asylum seekers, migrants, refugees, and immigrants.
While each of these four group have varied definitions, inclusive of distinct processing procedures, they collectively constitute an overrun of America’s borders! Even an overrun-on banks can cause them to fail. Since failure isn’t an option, Congress must address the overrun of America’s borders.
YOU BE THE JUDGE!
