Summer Justice Internship Program

Recently, the Broward County Public Defender’s Office concluded their two-week Summer Justice Internship Program with a grand finale that left a lasting impression on everyone in attendance. Despite having just five days to prepare, the talented young participants rose to the challenge, demonstrating remarkable dedication and skill.

Their task was to learn the intricacies of a real case, master trial procedures, and develop their roles within the legal team. They worked tirelessly to write their parts and perfect their performances.

The culmination of their hard work was a mock trial, where they presented their case to an audience of peers and family members. Their professionalism, confidence, and passion for justice shone through in every aspect of the trial.

A very pleased and excited Broward Public Defender Gordon Weekes credited a team effort for the success

Of the program. “We were honored to have distinguished guests join us for this special occasion. A big thank you to Jennito Simon for taking the time to attend and share his insights with our students. We are also deeply grateful to the Honorable Jackie Powell for her support and guidance throughout this program.”

The success of the Summer Justice Internship Program would certainly a community effort from the students, mentors, and guests.

“We look forward to building on this momentum and empowering the next generation of leaders in the legal profession”, noted Weekes.
