SURROUNDED BY LOVE

5THIS-ONESURROUNDED BY LOVE — While in town planning for their National Conference, Michael J. Brown, national president, 100 Black Men of America, Inc., stopped by the Red School House in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. to pay a visit to some very engaged pre-school students. Ms. Gwen Shaw, who is the owner of the family operated nursery school, which has been in her family for over 45 years, believes in the ‘old school’ methods of teaching. “We love our students and we believe that they can do anything when they are loved,” said Ms. Gwen. The pre-schoolers impress members of the 100 with their speaking Spanish and using sign language. “Over the last couple days, I have traveled through Fort Lauderdale. I’ve seen the neighborhoods of Melrose Park, Rock Island, Wilton Manors and Parkway. Also had the honor to visit the Red School, a school which has provided four generations (46 years) of early childhood care and education. A longstanding relationship with parents, their youth and their community. Everything the 100 does is based on personal and community relationships. Our upcoming conference will provide an opportunity to showcase that with goals of leaving a social and economic impact.” — Michael J.
