The recent Colombia County Board of Assessor’s 2025 property tax notice did little to convince the property owner they were not being gouged.
How can the fair market value of my property increase by approximately 11 percent from $250, 721 in 2024 to $279, 187 in 2025, when during the same period the annual inflation rate in the US was approximately 2.4 percent? Apparently, anything goes when a government must justify increasing the tax burden on a property owner.
Nevertheless, there is nothing fair about inflating the market value of a property for the purpose of assessing a higher tax which is why an increasing number of property owners are disregarding the last four letters in the title Board of Assessors.
