UNREGULATED AI vs. RUSSIAN ROULETTE

John Johnson II

“If the Founding Fathers feared Officials abandoning their integrity, why should a president believe AI titans possess the integrity to regulate AI themselves?”   John Johnson II 10/07/26

Russian roulette is a game of deliberate madness. One bullet goes in a six-chamber revolver. The cylinder is spun, the player presses the weapon against the side of the head and pulls the trigger, gambling that the chamber beneath the hammer is empty.

Unregulated artificial intelligence may become Russian roulette played with civilization.

But there is a frightening difference. In Russian roulette, the reckless player chooses to gamble with one’s life. With unregulated AI, a handful of corporate developers, technology titans, military planners, or government officials could effectively spin the cylinder for everybody else. The pistol  aim is not merely at one human skull but at the nation’s entire infrastructure.

A single AI failure need not resemble a bullet. It could be a cyberattack amplified at machine speed, a fabricated military command, or millions of convincing lies released before truth can put on its shoes.

The danger is not simply artificial intelligence. The greater danger may be human beings who refuse to regulate power. The Founding Fathers understood something chilling  about the U.S. Constitution; it could not manufacture integrity. Consequently, they constructed guardrails because republican government could not safely depend upon virtuous officials alone.

Critics today warn that presidential power, a Republican controlled congress, and a Supreme Court with a 6-3 conservative majority could weaken the Constitutional restraints designed to prevent concentrated power. Republicans presently control both chambers of congress. Whether one agrees with those critics or rejects their judgment, the constitutional question remains relevant.

And now humanity is adding AI to the equation. Where is congress? Where are the technology corporations? Where are the voters? Who possesses enough integrity to refuse to pull the trigger?

The Constitution  can regulate power. Congress can regulate technology. Elections can replace leaders. But no law can manufacture courage after integrity disappears.

Imagine for a moment, a young boy sets fire to the curtains in his bedroom. His parents are standing at the doorway watching. They even smile seemingly unconcerned of the eminent danger. They then return downstairs to watch their favorite movie, “The Matrix (1999.”

Believe it or not! This movie is  about AI conquering earth and harvesting human bodies for energy. Could this be a precursor to the current  AI revolution? Will this short vignette awaken Congress to the existential dangers of unregulated AI?

Unfortunately, the lust for power, profit, and greed “trumps” commonsense. No one should ever allow America’s collapse  to occur because of cowardness  and ignorance! And yes! I said it!

Unregulated AI may become Russian roulette with humanity forced to sit at the table.
