Meet the Westside Gazette’s newest student intern
By Renada Toyer
Hey hey hey, I am Renada JaNae Toyer, but you can call me JaNae. I am a rising senior at Western High School located in Davie. Since the age of 11, writing has been my favorite subject in school. When it came to authoring essays or even short response answers, it came as a joy to me.
Writing for me is not just slapping a bunch of words on a paper or document then calling it a day. Writing is my thought process, allowing myself to think on that topic on a deeper level which helps produce such wonderful stories.
I have been in my school’s yearbook class since my sophomore year, taking on an editorial role this year as Sports Editor and Social Media Manager. Having these roles has taught me a lot about leadership and helping others.
I may be the life of the party to my fellow peers, but when it comes to locking in and getting things done for the sake of our book, I do not play. Some may call it “mean” but I call it affirmative.
Being a part of the yearbook has only furthered my love for Sports and Student Life within the school. Interviewing athletes about what makes them passionate about their sport or what gets them in that mode to perform brightens up my day. Asking students questions about their opinions on the latest TikTok trend to how they feel about the adjustments happening around the school. All student voices matter and that was a goal of mine, everyone should be heard in the student body.
My plan is to continue allowing everyone to hear whether they are the highest ranked athletes in the area or just your average day-to-day student. I am beyond excited to begin this journey here at Westside Gazette and highlight what I must bring to the table to this business and even family. If you ever have trouble remembering my name, just remember these six words: Resilient, Energetic, Nurturing, Amusing, Direct, and Altruistic. That is me, RENADA.
