NEW PORT RICHEY — Pasco-Hernando State College is hosting a memorial service for its former president, Robert Judson Jr., who died Sept. 17.

The service is set to run from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 9 at the college’s Performing Arts Center on Ridge Road in New Port Richey.

Speakers will include former college President Katherine Johnson, trustee Dr. Rao Musunuru and President Timothy Beard, Ph.D.

The Saint John Missionary Baptist Church Male Chorus from Dade City will sing a tribute.

“The memorial service is our way to celebrate the life of Bob Judson and to honor his remarkable leadership at our college and in our communities,” Beard said in a statement. “Together, with his board and his administration, he added and expanded programs, erected new buildings, purchased property for expansion and raised funds to support the college, through his tenure … He was admired and respected for his vision and his authenticity.”

Judson became the first Black community college president in Florida when he was promoted to the job.

A reception will follow the service.
