       Robert “Frog” Rose, age 90, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025. Born on February 5, 1935, in Bartow, Florida, he was the beloved son of the late William Rose and Lessie Rose.

       The Westside Gazette family joins the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA) and the entire Black Press of America in mourning the passing of Wallace “Jack” Jackman, the esteemed former publisher of the Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder. Mr. Jackman transitioned at the age of 81, leaving behind a powerful legacy of service, integrity, and unwavering commitment to the advancement of African American journalism.

Remembering the Life and Legacy of former Miami-Dade Police Department First African American Police Director, Robert Parker by our Law Enforcement Community and the Robert Parker Foundation.  After a decade, his absence is still deeply felt within our community and throughout South Florida.  A Special Tribute from Police Chiefs of Miami-Dade County Association of Chiefs of Police and the Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office took place at Rusty Pelican Miami, 3201 Rickenbacker Causeway, Key Biscayne, FL on Sunday, November 2, 2025.

     However, these kinds of debates have always been present in the history of the Black Church. In fact, in their classic work, “The Black Church in the African American Experience,” C. Eric Lincoln and Lawrence H. Mamiya present a way of understanding Black churches as existing along a spectrum of opposite characteristics that are held in tension.

     Yet in his twilight years, Cheney performed an act of rare political courage: he stood against Donald Trump and, in a move that shocked Washington, endorsed Kamala Harris for president. That single act—rooted in principle rather than politics—may well be remembered as his finest hour.
