Church faces significant equipment losses, security repairs and upgrades while remaining committed to serving the South Florida community

MIAMI, FL — Bethel Apostolic Temple is urging churches and other houses of worship throughout South Florida to remain vigilant and review their security measures following an overnight burglary that resulted in the theft of essential worship, sound and technology equipment from the church.
Among the items stolen were sound consoles and mixers, professional video cameras, two laptop computers and other equipment essential to Bethel’s weekly worship services and ministry operations. The loss left the church unable to conduct its regularly scheduled Sunday worship service and weekly meetings.
While the incident represents a significant setback, Bethel’s leadership says the church remains prayerful, grateful and determined to move forward.
“This is certainly an unfortunate and disheartening situation, but we remain grateful that no lives were lost or individuals injured,” said Rev. Dr. Carol Nash – Lester, Senior Pastor. “Equipment can be replaced. We believe God is continuing to move on our behalf, and our focus now is doing everything necessary to strengthen our facility, replace the essential equipment that was taken, and continue the work of ministry,” Nash-Lester added.
A Caution to Other Houses of Worship
Bethel is sharing its experience not simply to report what happened, but as a cautionary reminder to other churches and faith-based organizations.
Churches are encouraged to be sober, vigilant, and proactive in reviewing their security systems, access protocols, lighting, cameras, alarms, locks, equipment inventories, and other safeguards.
Bethel had security measures and protocols in place prior to the burglary, yet the church was still vulnerable. The incident serves as a reminder that even organizations taking reasonable precautions should periodically reassess their security infrastructure and determine where additional protections may be necessary.
While Bethel cannot speculate as to whether churches are being specifically targeted, church leaders encourage congregations throughout the region to remain alert, communicate with neighboring institutions and law enforcement when appropriate, and take reasonable steps to protect their facilities, members and ministry resources.
Churches Are More Than Sunday Worship
The burglary also highlights a reality that is sometimes overlooked: churches are not institutions with unlimited financial resources.
There can be a public misconception that churches automatically have substantial financial means or ready access to money. For many congregations, particularly community-based ministries, that simply is not the case. Churches face many of the same increasing expenses affecting families, businesses, and nonprofit organizations while simultaneously being called upon to meet growing needs within their communities.
Bethel Apostolic Temple has long sought to be more than a place where people gather for worship on Sunday.
The church ministers to the sick and grieving, both members of the congregation and individuals throughout the community. It provides food, supplies, prayer, counseling, encouragement, and other forms of social, emotional, spiritual, and physical support. Like many churches, Bethel is often called upon when individuals and families are experiencing some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
These services require resources, volunteers, facilities and equipment.
Rebuilding and Strengthening Security
In addition to replacing the stolen equipment, Bethel is now faced with expenses associated with repairs and additional enhancements and upgrades to its security infrastructure.
The church is now faced with at least $25,000 to replace essential equipment, make repairs to damaged doors, and address immediate needs, with additional improvements to be made as resources become available.
At a time when finances are tight for individuals, families and ministries alike, Bethel understands that everyone may not be in a position to give. However, individuals, businesses, organizations, fellow churches and community partners who are able and willing to assist are invited to support the church’s recovery efforts. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Despite the setback, Bethel Apostolic Temple remains committed to its mission and is working diligently to resume its regular worship services.
