Fulfilling My Destiny

“The elder unto the elect lady and her children whom I love in the truth and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth…” The Second Epistle of John 1:1

Now that the celebration of my physical and spiritual birthdays is over, I am going to continue the discussion of my life in the ministry. God called me when I was 37.

Emphatically he spoke, “I must work the works of Him that sent me while it is day the night cometh when no man can work.” John 9:4

At the time of the call I was singing with my sisters; Francis, Mary, Lillie, Joanne, and Jackie. In the mid 1950’s we were organized by our mother Minnie Horsford-Williams as the Original Williams Sisters of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. With the assistance of my father Solomon Williams Sr., our first recording “God is Good/Jesus I’ll never forget” was released in 1977 on Hort Sullivan’s label.

As the clock wound and the wheels of time turned, I was content and confident that my husband was to become a minis-ter. In my heart I pledged to support him whole heartedly when that time came but before his acknowledgement, something strange happened to me. God called me to the ministry first. He chose a unique way of getting my attention by communication with me in visions. The Hebrew word for visions Hazon signifies a means of divine revelations and notes a prophetic vision by which divine messages are communicated. In Greek, the word for vision is Harama, that which is seen. The prophetic visions were the foremost means of conveying his instructions during that period. However, this is not the only way that God has spoken to me.

I confess that in the beginning I was perplexed. Curiously I went about seeking and asking various ministers, “How did God call you to the ministry? What did he say to you?” Some answered,” the Lord said,” go!” Others said the Lord said “Preach.” And still others said the Lord said “Teach.”

Not one of these answers satisfied my hunger for confirmation of this new thing happening to me. The answer came only when I knelt and prayed and meditated in the word. I realized that this was super-naturally from God- a call to serve.

“Many are called but few are chosen.” Mathew 22:14
