Pompano Beach Arts is proud to announce that television icon Malcolm-Jamal Warner is joining the fourth annual Exit 36 Slam Poetry Festival as a celebrity judge. The famed star of The Cosby Show and current hit The Resident will also be performing his poetry at the festival and sharing thoughts about his career during an Artist Talk. The three-day event attracts the premier spoken word artists in the country and will take place December 9-11, 2021, at the City’s cultural venues.      When the pandemic started, it was difficult for creatives to find gigs, or maintain the relationships they once had cultivated with businesses and organizations. Another area that was affected by the pandemic was the education and arts department. Skilled dancer and recent Ohio State University Alum Iman Clark is one of the many students that graduated in 2020. Upon graduation, it’s expected for you to go into the “real world”. Clark sat down and talked to us about what her world looked like after college, her love for dance, and future goals.

 Fifteen-year-old Florida teen, Paulinda Velasquez, spent 11 days on a ventilator after contracting Covid-19. Velasquez made a statement to CNN saying that she plans on getting vaccinated soon.

Frederick and Alfreda Pinkston (Fred and Freda), former longtime Broward County residents, recently celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary. The occasion, “Sixty Years of Bliss,” was held in Atlanta, Georgia where they now reside.

     It takes a small amount of conscious observation to see what types of media is allowed online. It takes but a moment to venture into your memory bank to recall what was and wasn’t allowed on television in the past. It doesn’t take long to conclude that the rules governing what is considered appropriate content has become more lenient over time. This is evident in all forms of media, as the music, television shows, movies and now online imagery and videos all have gradually allowed more content that was censored in the past. But why is there such a difference in what is allowed on the radio today than just 60 years ago?

Jaumarcus McFarland, a student-athlete who was enrolled at Champion Prep Academy in Atlanta, sadly died when an elevator collapsed, trapping him in between floors for more than an hour. The incident happened at the 444 Suites Student Housing in Northeast Atlanta, a building that is reportedly used as temporary housing for students at Clark Atlanta University, an HBCU.

Rashad D. Thomas has accepted the position of Regional Director of External Affairs with AT&T Florida. In his new role, Rashad will be responsible for External and Legislative Affairs activities in Miami-Dade County and parts of Broward. Rashad’s responsibilities will include working with Local and State Government Officials and enhancing AT&T’s presence throughout the Miami-Dade and Broward region.

     The highly esteemed, civil rights attorney Ben Crump grabbed the mic and spoke at the event about standing up for our youth and the community at large. Hosting in this capacity usually entails a short appearance, a speech, and inviting a few other noteworthy individuals. This was business as usual, until the face of the Positivity Pays foundation Ramon “Absoloot” Robinson entered in stage right “seemingly in the fourth quarter” to present Mr. Crump with something that would have him visibly emotional yet, overly excited and honored to receive.Â
