Dr. Wayne, CEO of Wayne Pharmaceuticals, Inc, is dedicated to closing the health disparity gap in the Black community. Based out of Cordele, Georgia, Dr. Wayne operates one of the only Black-owned pharmaceutical companies in the nation. Wayne Pharmaceuticals shares an 18-acre campus with the MD Whitest Medical Institute, right in the heart of Cordele’s west side, the most socio-economically deprived area of the city.

     “The data from this survey shows that much of the mainstream commentary around the economy or other policy issues hide the everyday realities and perspectives of many Black millennials,” said Antonio White, founder and principal at Beyond Ideas Group. “It’s hard for many Black millennials to prioritize fear of a possible recession when crippling student loan debt or family financial obligations loom above their heads. Every day might feel like a recession.”

     “African Americans make up only eight percent of restaurant owners and managers in the U.S.,” said Warren Luckett, co-founder of BRW in a recent Forbes feature. “Our mission is to provide a platform that calls for inclusion in the industry and exposes and elevates black-owned businesses.”

There are approximately 2.6 million Black-owned businesses in the United States. The number of Black or African American-owned firms grew 34.5 percent between 2007 and 2012— from 1.9 million to 2.6 million in 2012, according to the most recent statistics from the Census Bureau. Black women have been leading this charge of Black entrepreneurship. The number of Black female-owned firms climbed 66.9 percent, from 900,000 in 2007 to 1.5 million in 2012, noted the Census Bureau.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development formally proposed a new rule today that would severely undercut the ability of people of color, women, people with disabilities, and other groups to challenge and seek redress from discrimination in housing and lending under the Fair Housing Act.

The EITC was implemented as a way to offset the impact of Social Security taxes on low to moderate taxpayers and to provide them with an incentive to work. The credit can be worth up to $6,431 for 2018 and up to $6,577 in 2019 for families with three or more qualifying children. For taxpayers with two qualifying children, the maximum credit this year is $5,828. The maximum credit for one qualifying child is $3,526.
