     Governor Ron Desantis professes that Florida is where woke goes to die.  He is adamant. He is passing laws to ensure that courses such as AP Black American History are not taught in schools and teachers who teach kindergarteners all the way through to college graduate students face harsh consequences for teaching anything dealing with a semblance of diversity, equity, inclusion, white privilege, white fragility or critical race theory (CRT).

     Both entities have survived and overcome what appeared sometimes as insurmountable odds and yet they both survived and are thriving. Recognizing the historical complexities of the individuals asserted to and who constructed doors of hope-for each did the impossible. They spoke out on behalf of the downtrodden, disenfranchised, and those who labored beneath the sting of a purposeful and manifested whip.

     It is time to reclaim the “stay woke” narrative back to its original definition and intention because the thought that Florida is where wake goes to die is fake news.
