Ā Ā August is National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM). This annual observance highlights the importance of getting recommended vaccines throughout your life. We know the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted all aspects of life, including your ability to attend important appointments and receive routine vaccinations.

The Florida Department of Health in Broward County (DOH-Broward) issued a rabies alert for a portion of Davie, Florida. This is in response to an additional feral cat that tested positive on July 27, 2022.
Ā Ā Ā Ā The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has identified for the first time in domestic environmental samples the bacteria that causes a rare and serious disease called melioidosis. The bacteria, Burkholderia pseudomallei or B. pseudomallei, was identified through sampling of soil and water in the Gulf Coast region of Mississippi.
The rate per 100,000 births for white women stands at 19.1. For Hispanic women, the rate per 100,000 remains at 18.2.
New coronavirus cases continue to rise in Florida. The state reports an average of 11,000 new cases per day, a 12% increase over the last two weeks.
DOH-Broward is offering free back to school immunizations for children 4-18 at the Childrenās Reading Center and Museum located at 751 SW 121st Davie, 33325. Itās open from now until September 2, Tuesday-Saturday from 8 a.m. ā 4 p.m. Thursday hours are from 10 a.m. ā 6 p.m.
The BA.5 subvariant is the most transmissible coronavirus variant to date. It is threatening a new wave of infections across the US, even among those who have recently recovered from an infection. Scientists believe that BA.5 is capable of evading immunity from previous infections and vaccinations. New vaccine boosters are being developed which should provide broad spectrum protection against BA.5 and new variants that may emerge.
