       The evening began with students taking center stage, showcasing their accomplishments and entertaining the audience. The highlight of the event was the Bright Futures moment, conducted by Florida Lottery District Manager Maggie Pages-Pin. “I am honored to be here today to present each of these five deserving students with a Bright Futures medallion, representing their hard work and dedication on their academic journey,” said Pages-Pin.

       The bill was widely supported by ocean conservation groups who point to marine debris as a growing problem as millions of pounds of plastic enter Earth’s oceans each year. Florida wildlife officials have found balloons dozens of miles off-shore, and turtles have been rehabbed in coastal rescue facilities after mistaking the plastic for food.

        Roland Sanchez-Medina, Jr., a Miami attorney, was installed as the 76th president of the Florida Bar and Rosalyn Sia Baker-Barnes, a West Palm Beach attorney, is the first Black woman elected to the office of president-elect in the organization’s 135 years of existence.

     BIN: Black Information Network, the 24/7 national audio news network dedicated to providing trusted, fact-based journalism with a Black voice and perspective, announced today “Lock It and Store It! A BIN Gun Safety Awareness Campaign” to inform the community about the importance of keeping guns out of the reach of children to help save lives. “The Lock It and Store It! A BIN Gun Safety Awareness Campaign” will include the airing of special features, news reports and social media on the costs and impacts of unintentional shootings by Black children in America. In 2022, Darius V. Daughtry, one of South Florida’s best-known poets, authors, directors and educators, presented a stage reading of Seeking, where he explored a journey of self-discovery in the midst of an everchanging world. Now he brings his well-received work to the stage in this new full production with performances on Friday, July 26 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, July 27 at 2 and 7 p.m. in the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.   

Danielle Geathers from Miami to the Congressional Black Caucus Bootcamp! Danielle is a shining star from the 305, making history as the first Black student to be elected President of the Student Government Association at MIT. We’re thrilled to have her on board!” This impressive achievement is a testament to her dedication and leadership skills, which have made her a standout in her community.

   Congratulations to the 19 graduating high school seniors who each received a $1,000 scholarship from the Zeta Chi Ques. I am so grateful to the significant number of my riders who bought tickets from me to support our Mardi Gras event that raised most of the money for these scholarships.
