It has also raised $31.8 million for the Chaplin School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at FIU which graduates more undergraduate Black, Hispanic and international students than any other hospitality school in the country.
Single mothers hold an extremely respected role in society. They work hard to provide for their child or children and show their strength every day. Several icons, celebrities, and role models come from single-parent homes. But even with the amount of respect and gratitude single mothers receive, no parent can escape criticism. Certain parental issues specifically affect the children of single parents and a large number of problems within these households go unnoticed and un-talked about.

In celebration of Black History Month, History Fort Lauderdale, proud steward of our community’s past by making our heritage accessible and engaging to residents and visitors, will present “60 Years of Black Art,” a fine art exhibit featuring works for show and sale from Dillard Center for the Arts’ Advanced Placement (AP) students, from February 1 – 28. The exhibit, curated by instructor Celestin Joseph, represents historical and contemporary themes of equality from the perspective of students at the very school that was instrumental in overturning segregation laws in the City of Fort Lauderdale 51 years ago. The exhibit will be open to the public at the New River Inn building of History Fort Lauderdale and will be accessible as a digital experience on History Fort Lauderdale’s YouTube channel.
Florida A&M University (FAMU) has maintained its Carnegie R2 -High Research Activity – designation for the third consecutive year. FAMU attained the R2 designation in 2018 and is one of 10 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to hold the classification.
Gomez will participate in the 2022 Leadership Institute for the Southeast Florida/Caribbean District, which covers coastal counties from Indian River through Monroe, and throughout the Caribbean Islands. She is one of 35 leaders chosen through a competitive application process. During the program, participants will attend in-person sessions covering a range of topics from Design and Construction to Development and Capital Markets, as well as complete a leadership project that addresses land use and policy issues.
