     Voters showed the strength of our democracy by showing up in record numbers to cast ballots to defeat an incumbent president. And voters in Georgia, led by Black voters, made history by electing a progressive Black preacher and Jewish filmmaker to the U.S. Senate.

     Recently, a contentious exchange between lobbyist Barney Bishop and state representative Ramon Alexander expounded on the powder keg that is currently race relations in America.  Bishop, arguing in favor of HB233, a bill that would “prohibit State Board of Education and BOG from shielding students, staff, and faculty from certain speech.”  In short, it would open college campuses in the state university system to anyone who wishes to speak on campus.

Central County Community Development Corporation (CCCDC), a subsidiary of the Urban League of Broward County, announced a $250,000 Equity-Equivalent (EQ2) investment from Synovus Bank to fund its Small Business Loan Fund. The fund was established in 2015 to improve access to capital for low-income entrepreneurs and small business owners in low-wealth communities across Florida.

     Samuel Ellis, of Fort Lauderdale, was one of the first to take advantage of the new vaccination pop-up site at Broward Health North. Ellis said he let his children know that he wanted the vaccine, and they helped him register. A few days later he arrived at Broward Health North.

       He dropped out of school and became a graffiti artist in Soho and Manhattan, New York.
