It is an irony of history and a tragedy for the world that before we can finish making resolutions for a new and promising future, let alone begin building one, pathologies and problems of the past continue to pursue us, impose themselves on the present and threaten our very existence. And so, now we are confronted with the real possibility of a war in West Asia (the Middle East) which will no doubt, not only engulf the region, but also extend around the world. To speak of the pathologies and problems of the past is to speak of not only Trump’s thuggish act of war of assassinating Gen. Qassim Suleimani, commander of the Quds Force of the Iranian Army and perhaps the second highest ranking government member, but also of the continuing legacy and brutal practice of empire, imperialism, raw and unrepentant.

Voter suppression is one of those factors that can significantly impact election outcomes. Looking toward the presidential election, if voter suppression is to occur, it will likely include Florida, aimed disproportionately at people of color. These activities now tend to change results in close elections. The Brennan Center for Justice, a policy and law institute which deals with issues such as voter suppression, explained that this negative trend is growing.
Florida is the nation’s third-largest state with 46 percent of the general population consisting of people of color. Yet, whites comprise 4 out of every 5 judges, and most of them are male. The current makeup of the state Supreme Court is particularly glaring. Five white men now sit on Florida’s high court, and there has not been a Black jurist since Justice Peggy Quince’s term ended on January 8, 2018.

According to FOX News, “Ex-NFL Star, Jack Brewer, predicts ‘Black awakening’ will give Trump un-precedented support in 2020.” Black sellouts are coming out the closet. In a 1963 speech at Michigan State University, Malcolm X referred to these sellouts as ‘20th Century Uncle Toms.’
