Today is the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons. Recognizing the growing concerns over the catastrophic humanitarian effects of even a single nuclear weapon and the findings of the “Nuclear Famine” scientific studies, the U.N. General Assembly declared the International Day in 2013 as part of a series of efforts to raise public awareness and to seek deeper engagement on nuclear disarmament matters.

Impeaching Trump: A citizens’ guide
Whether or not Donald Trump continues in office in the near future, he has already contributed to a language of immigration that’s both larger than him and that will outlast him. The language is spoken by members of the Trump administration and its allies in the media and in restrictionist think tanks. Grounded in a narrative of threat from within and without, it’s a language that sanctions and rationalizes violence against immigrants. For convenience’s sake, I’ll call it “immigrationspeak.”

Journalism Heads Are Bowed
John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School in Augusta, Georgia is Richmond County’s premier magnet school. The Davidson student population is 43 percent Black and 46 percent White. Yet, according to the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement, Black teachers are outnumbered four to one at 9 and 36 respectively.
Under the Trump Administration, a consistent and focused deregulation effort has been underway to turn CFPB into a toothless tiger. It’s almost as if CFPB now stands for Corporate Financial Protection Bureau. Rather than living up to its name, CFPB eschews consumers and defers to companies and their preferences as to what financial regulation should look like.
For one thing, such a decision would not serve US national interests; it would be based on Saudi oil supplies and oil prices—a war for oil, pure and simple.
